In Celebration of Bodacious Women

During the month of October, Simple Pleasures Books & Gifts will be celebrating the women who have inspired us, motivated us and given us strength. In that spirit, we will highlight a selection of titles written by and/or about these special women, who we refer to as “Bodacious Women”. In addition to the titles and authors we are highlighting, we will be hosting a series of author signings throughout the month.

While we feel strongly about bringing attention to these amazing women, our event has another purpose as well.  In deference to October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, each of the titles that we have selected for this special promotion will be marked with a pink ribbon.  For each specially marked title sold, Simple Pleasures will donate 5% of the sales to the Richmond Affiliate of  Susan G. Komen  Breast Cancer Foundation®.

Saturday, October 3rd ( 1-4 pm)  Kick-off Open House for “Celebrating Bodacious Women”- Free Refreshments , Pink Ribbon bookmarks with attached title recommendations, *Double Entries for our “Fall Into Books Raffle” ( *with qualifying purchase), and so much more

Saturday, October 10th (1-4pm) : Casey Quinlan–      Casey Quinlan, the Mighty Mouth of Mighty Casey Media, works with individuals and enterprises to help them tell the remarkable stories that communicate their value. She is also the author of “Cancer For Christmas-  Making the Most of A Daunting Gift”.  When talking about her newly released book, Casey says:  “ I got cancer for Christmas in 2007 and lived to tell the tale, which has made me passionate about helping people become active participants in their medical care. “

Saturday, October 17th (1-4pm) : Doreen Washington–    Doreen Washington is the Founder/Executive Director of the FACE Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted assisting single mothers through workshops, resources and  education. As part of their fundraising efforts, Doreen has written a wonderfully inspirational book titled “We Are Woman”. Remarks about the book:   “Doreen Washington has come along to remind women of what they are made of. Single women, renew  confidence in yourself as Doreen encourages you to remember your strength and power. Women in relationships, remember your ability to persevere and renew your worth. All women, take this opportunity to be empowered and love yourself. “

Saturday, October 24th (1-4pm):  Mary Foley-   Being “bodacious” was Mary Foley’s personal rallying cry during her successful, crazy-filled 10-year career at AOL’s in the 1990s.  Now her aim is to increase women’s sanity, confidence, and fun through her writing, live events, and on-air.  She is author of “Bodacious! Career”, “Bodacious! Woman”, a popular national speaker, and along with Susie Galvez, co-host of Richmond’s own “Girlfriend We Gotta Talk!” radio show, which is broadcast each Sunday on WLEE 990 AM at 3 pm.  We’re excited to be the first bookstore in Richmond to offer her brand new book “Live Like Your Nail Color, Even If You Have Naked Nails:  Discovering Sanity, Confidence and Fun at the Tips of Your Fingers or Toes.”
