On Saturday May 8th JJ McMoon previewed his debut novel Lives to the patrons of Ashland Coffee & Tea and other invited guests. In addition to doing several readings from Lives, giving those present a glimpse into the wonderfully diverse characters he has created, he spoke for a bit about his writing process and future plans for both Lives and other projects.
During the event Saturday, JJ also talked about the documentary presently in the works for Lives. This documentary will focus on the process of bringing Lives from an idea into a finished novel and beyond to putting Lives into the hands of readers and booksellers. The innovative path McMoon took and the reasons behind his decisions is a compelling story in itself and speaks to new avenues open to emerging authors that can sometimes feel stymied by the traditional path of becoming published. The documentary, in production during this summer, will feature interviews with readers, authors and booksellers, among others who have played a part in the path of Lives.
Although Lives will not officially release until June 1, 2010, first-run copies were available to those who attended the event on May 8th and were signed and numbered by the author. Sales figures during the launch and signing were our most successful for an author event to date, signaling impressive early interest in this compelling, character-driven novel. McMoon also reports that pre-release sales (www.jjmcmoon.com) are strong- another impressive indicator.
Not one to rest on early laurels, McMoon has already been working on his next novel and in addition to the Lives documentary in production this summer; he is working on another project sure to delight fans of cult-classic films. More on that later…
As we indicated in previous posts ( our review and promo video) JJ McMoon has committed a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Lives ( purchased through his website) to be donated to The Dinner Garden, ( www.dinnergarden.org ) a non-profit organization that works to assist people in a self-sustaining way to eradicate hunger. Their work to accomplish this goal comes in the form of providing the means for people in need to plant home, neighborhood and container gardens so they can use the vegetables they grow for food and income.
