Celebrate Your Right to Read Freely!

On Saturday October 2, 2010, from 12-4pm Simple Pleasures Books & Gifts will observe Banned Books Week with an event at

This Simple Pleasures Event: Celebrate Your Right to Read Freely will feature local area authors giving readings from a selection of books that have been banned or challenged in different areas of the country. Participating authors include: Catherine Saydlowski ( aka Catherine Berlin), JJ McMoon, and Jack Trammell

Banned Books Week is an annual observance begun by The American Library Association in
1982. From the ALA’s website:


The American Library Association (ALA) has celebrated Banned Books Week annually during the last week in September. The goal of this weeklong event is to keep the concept of literary freedom at the forefront of Americans’ minds.

In addition to readings from banned and challenged books, the participating authors will be available to sign copies of their own work available for sale at the event. In addition, Simple Pleasures will have an assortment of titles from the lists available for sale at the event.
